November always used to be the start of the “rainy season”, ie big waves plus lots of rain & wind, meaning not a lot of scuba diving or snorkelling! OK, the vis dropped for a few days after black moon, but yesterday conditions at Sail Rock were fine again with the current mild. And this morning Chaloklum Bay is totally calm & the sun’s shining from a blue sky. The bull sharks are still about & our last whale shark visitation was a few days ago, so the Rock remains our prime dive destination, although it would be nice to make some scuba dives at the Marine Park...

Apologies for the delayed Koh Phangan diving update, Chaloklum style, but we’ve been working/diving quite hard for a (welcome) change! A bunch of Padi Open Water Diver courses, a busy diving boat & an island that’s close to full (what with the full moon party & all) has kept us thoroughly entertained. Thankfully Sail Rock has had consistently good conditions, regular bull shark sightings plus the odd whaleshark; Michael & his lucky student started their first dive yesterday with one. Most of our dive sites should offer good diving conditions with the current fine...

Time to go to some different diving & snorkelling destinations, much as we love Sail Rock! And it looks like we can expect good conditions at most dive sites with the prevailing calm sunny weather (but is that thermocline still there on the HMS Satakut wreck?). Anyway long may it last! Things are reasonably quiet on the diving school front, without a lot of Padi course action except, of course, for DMT Dave’s just-about-finished Divemaster training. But Koh Phangan is definitely getting a little more lively now, with a few of our scuba diving regulars back on the island (& so...

Despite Koh Phangan being a quiet island we managed to stir up enough interest to do a slightly different diving trip yesterday. A happy bunch of scuba divers suggests that we don’t always have to go to Sail Rock in the low season! The next step is to go to 3 dive sites, namely Southwest Pinnacles, Samran & Sail Rock; please let us know if you’re interested.. The team are all taking it reasonably easy & getting some real fun diving done, as a break from either teaching Padi courses or the delights of running the dive centre! Expect more photos as we all get more chances...
