A Happy Scuba New Year from the Chaloklum Diving Team.

Hoping that all our scuba diving (& otherwise) friends had a Merry Christmas, & wishing all a Happy New Year from the Chaloklum Diving School massive. We have had a thoroughly festive time, this year without our usual Christmas day scuba dives due to a couple of days unpleasant weather! However we’re back in action again, with diving trips to Sail Rock today & tomorrow, plus a Koh Tao special in the pipeline (time for some snorkelling too). We’re still going to wait another day or 2 until we offer local dive sites & the Marine Park… At the dive centre...

Koh Phangan; Diving & Snorkelling still fine (what rainy season? pt. 2).

Koh Phangan; Diving & Snorkelling still fine (what rainy season? pt. 2).

And still the nice weather continues when it should be horrible. It’s a crazy situation when there are so few tourists here that we can only offer boat diving trips to Sail Rock, fabulous as it is. Dive sites like the Marine Park, Southwest Pinnacles & Koh Tao are just not possible because of a scarcity of scuba divers! But we’re not suffering too much; to make up for it we have been doing more scuba dives at a few of our favourite local dive sites, as we sometimes forget what Koh Phangan diving has to offer. The word is that our dive boat is now back in the water, &...

Koh Phangan; Where’s the rainy season?

Koh Phangan; Where’s the rainy season?

November always used to be the start of the “rainy season”, ie big waves plus lots of rain & wind, meaning not a lot of scuba diving or snorkelling! OK, the vis dropped for a few days after black moon, but yesterday conditions at Sail Rock were fine again with the current mild. And this morning Chaloklum Bay is totally calm & the sun’s shining from a blue sky. The bull sharks are still about & our last whale shark visitation was a few days ago, so the Rock remains our prime dive destination, although it would be nice to make some scuba dives at the Marine Park...

Chaloklum/Koh Phangan Scuba Diving update, October 2012.

Post full moon party on Koh Phangan & a quiet month beckons; a great chance to get really personal Padi courses & enjoy peaceful dive sites! Sail Rock is still offering excellent scuba diving conditions & 2 days ago a fairly big whale shark, of the 5-6 metre variety made an appearance! Our last diving & snorkelling trip to Koh Tao was also fine, but we’re once again awaiting an update on conditions at the Marine Park. Not a lot of team news from the diving school, but we still seem to be eating out a lot & generally living the easy life so cannot complain! We had a...

Koh Phangan relaxes, but the diving’s still Great!

Koh Phangan relaxes, but the diving’s still Great!

After a fairly hectic August it’s nice to relax a little as Chaloklum Village & the island quietens down. We’ve still been making regular diving trips to Sail Rock, where scuba dive conditions remain excellent & today we’ve gone to Koh Tao, diving & snorkelling at Shark Island & Laem Tian. The Marine Park hasn’t been special lately, which is a shame, but the vis at the dive sites around Koh Phangan remains thoroughly pleasant. Not a lot of team news from the diving school; we seem to be eating a lot of meals out & generally living a more easy life....
